Monster Hunter Rise passes 20 million and closes in on World

Monster Hunter Rise has reached 20 million copies sold, according to a Capcom announcement on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, posted by the series' official Japanese account. The milestone closes a jump from the 19.3 million reported in June and puts the Kamura game back at the center of the franchise conversation.

What happened?

Capcom's message thanks hunters and notes that Monster Hunter Rise is on sale in digital stores for anyone who has not yet started in Kamura. The commemorative art, posted on @MH_Rise_JP, shows the village group gathered around dango, the sweet that became a symbol of the village.

Monster Hunter Rise launched on March 26, 2021 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. PC followed, then PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series versions, plus the Sunbreak expansion, which took the hunt to Elgado. The 20 million figure covers base-game sales across those platforms, as reported by Gematsu and Nintendo Life from Capcom's statement.

Why it matters

The mark puts Monster Hunter Rise close to Monster Hunter World, which Capcom itself listed at 22.40 million base-game units as of June 30, 2026, according to Nintendo Life. World remains ahead, but Rise began on a handheld and only later became multiplatform.

The comparison matters because Capcom has already shifted the series' focus to Monster Hunter Wilds, released in 2025. An earlier update this year indicated more than 11 million units for Wilds. Five years after launch, Monster Hunter Rise is still adding hundreds of thousands of copies in a few months, from 19.3 million in June to 20 million now.

What changes in practice?

For current hunters, nothing changes in the game: there is no patch, new mode or Switch 2 edition tied to this announcement. The effect is commercial. Capcom is using the milestone to push the current sale and keep Monster Hunter Rise visible while Wilds takes the large updates.
