Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch. 4Gamer and Famitsu hands-on sessions at Tokyo Game Show 2026 were the first time press could play the new Sift dimension — the first extra dimension in the Minecraft universe in about 15 years. Game director Mans Olson cited Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind as a visual reference.
What happened?
Japanese press played a four-player local co-op preview. Sift is framed as another fertile, organic Overworld reached through rifts, with both an explorable field and dungeons that rebuild on each entry.
Olson and production director Nathan Rose told Famitsu the sequel’s Overworld also mixes hand-authored spaces with procedural dungeons. Sift is meant to avoid Nether and End palettes.
Why it matters
The original was an isometric dungeon crawler without a jump. The sequel adds jumping, more gear slots, matchmaking and mixed local-plus-online co-op. Sift is the narrative and level hook: a new Minecraft biome, not just another hack-and-slash stage.
This is separate from The Sift announced for base Minecraft in 2027. Here the dimension ships in Mojang’s action RPG this week.
In practice
Day-one buyers get Sift at launch, not as later DLC. Cross-play and party codes were highlighted in the Japanese previews. It remains a co-op action game, not the building sandbox.
