Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29, 2026 on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The sequel from Mojang Studios and Double Eleven, published by Xbox Game Studios, unlocked worldwide at the same moment and arrived on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Store listings put the price at US$ 29.99.
The official announcement is on the Minecraft website. According to the game pages, the engine is Unreal Engine 5 and the internal project name was Spicewood.
What changes from the first game
The original Minecraft Dungeons was a stage-based hack and slash. Minecraft Dungeons II opens the map: players travel between areas, use minecart stations as fast travel and build a character with more equipment layers. There is a melee weapon, a ranged weapon, three artifact slots, four armor slots and three passive talismans.
Combat still supports up to four players in couch or online co-op with crossplay across platforms.
The Illager Council and the Sift
After the first game, rifts appeared in the Overworld. Mobs picked up strange energies and sculk spread. Mojang pins the events on a trio — the Prime Enchanter, the Supreme Evoker and the Grand Illusioner — called the Illager High Council.
Besides new Overworld biomes, Minecraft Dungeons II adds the Sift, a new dimension with its own creatures, landscapes and secrets. The illagers operate there as well. The campaign asks players to stop their coordinated attacks before the balance between the two worlds breaks.
Game Pass, Hero Cape and Deluxe
Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play Minecraft Dungeons II on day one. The Deluxe Edition adds cosmetics (Soul Cape, Blub pet, four Fancy Hero skins) and DLC 1 and 2 when they ship. Players who own the first Dungeons on the same Microsoft account unlock the Hero Cape in the sequel and in Minecraft Java and Bedrock.
Early Metacritic scores landed in the “generally favorable” range. Install sizes are about 9 GB on PC and Xbox, 7 GB on PS5 and 4.3–6 GB on Nintendo versions.
