Microsoft is internally testing a full redesign of the Xbox app for PC, codenamed Garrison. According to Jez Corden’s hands-on at Windows Central, the new version loads libraries with more than 1,400 games significantly faster and simplifies navigation.
What changed?
Store and library pages have been merged into a single interface. It is now clearer which games can be installed locally and which are only available via Xbox Cloud Gaming. The Xbox app gained layouts optimized for mouse/keyboard and controller, and can be set as the home screen in Windows 11’s Game Mode — useful for handhelds such as the ROG Xbox Ally.
When is it coming?
There is still no official date. Corden estimates the version could reach the Xbox Insider program in the coming weeks, possibly still in 2026. The current focus is performance and usability; new features are expected later.
