Mario Kart Tour shuts down after seven years on mobile

Nintendo ended service for Mario Kart Tour on September 29, 2026, at 11 p.m. Pacific Time. Opening the iOS or Android app now shows a notice that the game is unavailable, plus a thank-you message.

What happened

The free-to-play racer launched on September 25, 2019 and ran for seven years. The shutdown was announced in July. Nintendo Support confirms the cutoff and points to the official FAQ.

Maintenance ran through 5:59 p.m. PT on September 30. After that, past tour stats can be viewed again. All-Cup rankings remain on the official site until the end of September 2027.

No offline edition

Unlike Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Nintendo says no offline version is planned. Tracks, karts and drivers unique to the mobile game leave with the servers.

Players who linked a Nintendo Account can relink it to recover save data and view past records, according to the in-app notice and the official final report.

Lifetime numbers

AppMagic estimates cited by Mobilegamer.biz, Nintendo Life and VGC put lifetime downloads above 276 million and revenue near $268.5 million. Monthly revenue had fallen to about $650,000 when the shutdown was announced. The United States accounted for an estimated 39% of lifetime spend.

Ruby sales and Gold Pass renewals stopped in July. New content had already ended in 2023 after the Anniversary Tour.

Why it matters

Mario Kart Tour was one of Nintendo's last major active mobile titles. Without an offline build, exclusive courses are no longer playable. Some tracks later appeared in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass and in Mario Kart World events, but the app itself is finished.
