M2 announces re-release of Armed Police Batrider, classic 1998 shoot 'em up

Japanese developer M2 has announced a re-release of the classic arcade shoot 'em up Armed Police Batrider (1998), originally developed by Raizing (now Eighting). The announcement took place during the 10th anniversary event of the M2 ShotTriggers line on October 10, 2026. Platforms and a release date have not yet been revealed.

What happened?

Armed Police Batrider is a vertical shoot 'em up notable for its team-based system: players choose up to three different aircraft for each mission instead of a single ship. There are 18 aircraft available, including members of the secret ZERO COP team and guest characters from previous Raizing games such as Battle Garegga and Mahou Daisakusen.

The new M2 edition, under the ShotTriggers brand, will include a faithful Arcade mode, a Super Easy mode that adjusts attack patterns of bosses and enemies, and M2 Gadgets — interfaces that display real-time item information, hidden boss conditions, and special formations.

Why does it matter?

The game is one of the most respected titles from the golden age of Japanese arcade shoot 'em ups. Its team selection system and scoring depth make it a classic among fans of the genre. M2 is known for high-fidelity arcade ports and preservation, and this edition aims to make the title more accessible without losing its original essence.

The announcement is part of a broader movement to preserve 1990s arcade games, with M2 also revealing versions of other titles from the era.

What changes in practice?

Players who never had easy access to the original arcade version — or who only experienced it through emulation or the Astro City Mini V — will be able to play an official preserved version. The Super Easy mode and gadgets lower the barrier for newcomers, while the Arcade mode keeps the authentic experience for veterans.

Details on platforms (possibly Switch, PS5, PS4, and PC), price, and release date will be announced later by M2.
