The adult LEGO PlayStation set goes on general sale in Japan this Sunday, October 4, 2026. LEGO Japan confirms set 72306, with 1,911 pieces, a suggested price of 27,980 yen including tax, and an 18+ age rating. LEGO Insiders members have been able to buy it since October 1.
What is in the box
The model recreates the gray original PlayStation console and a controller, close to the real machine in size: about 6 cm high, 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep. LEGO describes the build as a simulation of the 1990s ritual of turning the console on. The controller plugs into the body, and the Open and Power buttons can actually be pressed.
The set’s “secret command” is the interior. Opening the console reveals period dioramas: a miniature Gran Turismo (1997) track and a scene from Ape Escape (1999, Saru Getchu in Japan), with the red and blue Pipo monkey helmets. The pieces can stay inside the console or be displayed separately.
Where to buy
General sale starts at official Japanese retailers: the LEGO online shop, LEGO Stores in the country, the certified Benelic shop on Rakuten, Legoland Japan Resort, and the Legoland Discovery Centers in Tokyo and Osaka. The company notes that not every store will carry the product and recommends checking stock locally.
Famitsu highlighted this LEGO PlayStation release again on October 4, the day sales stop being Insiders-only. LEGO Japan’s original announcement came in September, via a PR Times release.
Why it matters
The 1994 PlayStation changed the console market and remains a collector icon. A nearly 2,000-piece set with direct references to two first-generation Sony games is a shelf piece, not a children’s toy. For anyone following LEGO and games collaborations, today is the practical milestone: open sale in the market where the product was announced.
