LEGO PlayStation Revealed: Official Console Replica Hides Gran Turismo and Ape Escape Dioramas

LEGO and Sony have announced the LEGO PlayStation, the very first official brick-built replica of the original PlayStation console. The news was unveiled during September's State of Play broadcast (Sony's online gaming showcase) and recreates the 1994 console in nearly 1:1 scale, controller included.

What is inside the LEGO PlayStation box

Identified by set number 72306, the build consists of 1,911 pieces and measures roughly 6 cm high by 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep—very close to the dimensions of the actual console. The power and disc-tray buttons are fully functional, and the controller is built as a separate piece that plugs into the console's front port, just like the original hardware.

The detail stealing the spotlight

Going viral among fans is a hidden feature: inside the disc compartment, builders can assemble miniature dioramas inspired by two PlayStation classics—a tiny racing track nodding to Gran Turismo and a scene featuring the monkey from Ape Escape. These miniatures can be stored inside the closed console or displayed separately as collector trophies.

Price and release date

The LEGO PlayStation costs $179.99 in the US (€159.99 in Europe and £139.99 in the UK). LEGO Insiders loyalty members get early access starting October 1st, with a general release on October 4th via the official LEGO website, brand retail stores, and select retailers. Due to small parts, the set carries an 18+ recommendation.

Context

The reveal was a standout moment during the September State of Play, where Sony also dropped news on games like Until Dawn 2 and showed off more footage of Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei. This partnership marks the first time LEGO has officially recreated a Sony console, reinforcing a recent trend of the brand investing in nostalgic replica electronics targeted at adult collectors.
