KPop Demon Hunters 2 will get a broad theatrical release, Ted Sarandos says

KPop Demon Hunters 2 is set for a wide cinema release, not a Netflix-only debut. Ted Sarandos, the company’s co-CEO, said so at Bloomberg’s Screentime event on Wednesday night, September 30, 2026.

Reports from the event quote him saying audiences can expect a “very broad” theatrical release, also described as big, broad and global. He did not announce a date. Some outlets place the film around 2029; others note that no schedule is confirmed and that it is unlikely before the end of the decade. That window is an estimate, not a Netflix commitment.

What Sarandos said

He was discussing how Netflix wants to serve people who prefer certain films in a theater without reducing catalog value. The central line was that the KPop Demon Hunters sequel should get a very broad theatrical debut. Windows cited for other titles, 50 days for Narnia and 47 for Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory, were not presented as the plan for this sequel.

Why Netflix is betting on cinemas

The first film, released on Netflix in June 2025, logged 325.1 million views in 90 days and spent 63 straight weeks in the global Top 10, figures cited in event coverage. A singalong version grossed about US$19 million in two days, according to the same report. Other coverage cites estimates near US$24 million; Netflix did not spell out the figure on stage.

Sarandos argued that theatrical films take the most engaged audience to cinemas and leave later viewers for streaming. There is no release date, window length or exhibitor list for KPop Demon Hunters 2. Coverage includes NME and PinkNews.
