Jev by TypeSafe AI raises $870 million and reaches $7.5B valuation

The Jev model from TypeSafe AI marks a new phase in the artificial intelligence market. The company announced a $870 million Series A at a $7.5 billion valuation. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia Capital and existing investor DCVC. Martin Casado of a16z is joining the company's board.

The announcement comes less than a month after Jev's launch on September 15, 2026. The startup claims that roughly one-third of Fortune 500 companies are already using the model, an extraordinarily rapid pace of enterprise adoption.

What is Jev from TypeSafe AI?

Unlike large language models (LLMs), Jev does not generate text. Based on a transformer architecture, it produces probabilities and what the company calls “calibrated decisions.” The idea is to provide structured outputs that software can consume directly — such as choices with probabilities, scores, or true/false checks — rather than requiring text interpretation.

According to TypeSafe, the model is significantly faster and more token-efficient than LLMs for automation tasks. Co-founder Diogo Almeida, a former OpenAI researcher, previously said that “we have been super good at human language for four years, but it’s not useful for automation because computers speak a different language.”

The company uses a training method called Reinforcement Learning for Calibrated Decisions (RLCD) and positions Jev as the first in a series called System One Models, aimed at software-native decisions.

Why it matters

The AI market has been dominated by generative text models. Jev represents a bet on a different category: models optimized for operational automation, where speed, cost, and structured outputs matter more than conversational fluency. The size of the round and the speed of enterprise adoption reinforce investor interest in alternatives to traditional LLMs.

TypeSafe was founded in 2024 by Almeida, Sasha Sheng (ex-Meta), and Erik Gafni. The previous round, a $40 million seed led by DCVC, occurred at the same time as Jev's launch.
