Horizon Create: Meta launches AI tools to make games on phone and browser

Horizon Create and Horizon Studio are Meta's new tools to turn a prompt into a playable game on phone and browser. The reveal came at Meta Connect this week, alongside Unity 6.6 day-one support for VR Glasses, due spring 2027.

What happened?

Horizon Create is the mobile app; Horizon Studio runs in the browser. Both use agentic features of the Meta Horizon Engine: you describe the idea, tune progression, difficulty, art direction and multiplayer, and the system builds a revisable plan. On Create you can keep using the phone while generation runs, then playtest when the notification lands.

Meta says output can travel across Facebook, Instagram and Horizon. This is not a AAA replacement for Unity or Unreal — it is a proto and UGC shortcut inside Horizon.

VR Glasses and Unity

VR Glasses are described as five times lighter than Quest 3, with a 5K micro-OLED display and no heavy straps. Unity confirmed OpenXR support in Unity 6.6. Quest projects can carry forward with minimal changes. XRI Toolkit, XR Hands and the XR Interaction Simulator already let teams design and test without the physical device.

Why it matters

Horizon Create pushes Meta into the same "describe and play" lane other tech firms are chasing in 2026. For Quest developers the practical note is different: you can start porting and testing months before retail in spring 2027. A second Start Developer Competition runs 24 September to 18 November 2026 with $1M in total prizes.
