Arrowhead Game Studios announced on Monday, October 20, 2026, the implementation of Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat, switching the previous GameGuard system to Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) in Helldivers 2.
What happened with Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat?
In an official Steam post, the developer explained that the GameGuard implementation "wasn't as effective as it could have been" and that the move to Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat, an industry standard used in over 200 games, aims to better protect the integrity of the Galactic War and fair play.
The Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat transition happens the same day, along with additional security measures to combat cheat mods affecting other players. Mods that alter others' experience may stop working, and some non-malicious cosmetic mods may need updates from their creators.
Steam Deck and Linux compatibility with Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat
In the FAQ on Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat, Arrowhead confirmed that Steam Deck and Linux compatibility remains unchanged, with no new hardware requirements. This is relevant because EAC is kernel-level, but the game remains playable via Proton.
The change to Helldivers 2 Easy Anti-Cheat has generated mixed community reaction, with reports of negative Steam reviews related to the impact on mods. Patch 7.2.0 also brought weapon balance changes and the Scope of Authority Warbond.
