Harbinger raises $240 million in Series D and expands from electric trucks into defense and energy

American industrial technology company Harbinger announced on Thursday, November 5, 2026, a $240 million Series D funding round to expand its electrification platform beyond electric trucks.

The round was co-led by Tiger Global, Capricorn's Technology Impact Fund and defense-focused investor Ridgeline. Other participants included Fidelity Management & Research Company, Squarepoint Capital, Xantium, Maniv, Greycroft, Australian Gulf Capital, PanaceaVC, ArcTern Ventures and Leitmotif, plus strategic investors FedEx, THOR Industries (through TechNexus) and BuildGroup. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley acted as placement agents.

What the round funds

With the new funding, Harbinger has raised more than $650 million since its founding in 2021. The company says the money will fund expansion into commercial vehicles, energy storage systems, power generation, autonomy software and defense applications, alongside a ramp-up of its medium-duty platform manufacturing.

The company frames the expansion in five verticals: Motors for electric and hybrid commercial-vehicle platforms; Praesidia for unmanned and autonomy-ready defense platforms; Industria for automotive components and systems; Phantom AI for driver-assistance and autonomous-driving technology; and Potentia, focused on energy, which is still listed as coming soon.

FedEx: 2,000 trucks and a board seat

The strongest sign of commercial traction is FedEx: the logistics giant ordered 2,000 all-electric Harbinger trucks in a deal worth more than $300 million, with deliveries planned by the end of 2027. FedEx Senior Vice President of Safety and Transportation Paul Melander has also joined Harbinger's board of directors.

Beyond electric trucks

Founded by former employees of Canoo and QuantumScape, Harbinger started with a single electric truck chassis and has widened its scope: it acquired autonomy startup Phantom AI, is developing hybrid emergency vehicles and has unveiled a driverless hybrid-electric platform for the military, in partnership with defense manufacturer American Rheinmetall.

“Electrification is at the core of everything we do, and increasingly, electrification is at the core of industry, defense, mobility, and AI,” said John Harris, Harbinger's co-founder and CEO, in the official announcement. The announcement circulated widely on social media on the same day. The company did not disclose the round's valuation.
