Stephen Root, the voice of Bill Dauterive in King of the Hill and Milton in Office Space, has confirmed to the Associated Press that he is in GTA 6. This marks the first public confirmation of a cast member for the game. Rockstar Games has not yet officially disclosed the cast.
The news spread on Monday (14) across outlets like GameSpot, Eurogamer, IGN, and Dexerto, originating from an AP interview at the BAFTA TV Tea Party in Beverly Hills.
What Happened?
Root was discussing his Emmy nomination for Apple TV+'s Widow's Bay when asked about the GTA 6 rumors. He replied, "Yeah, you're going to see me in there."
The actor stated that the release date he knows is November 19, 2026. According to him, the "secret" had already leaked in the second trailer from May 2025. The voice of Brian Heder, a Leonida Keys smuggler connected to Jason Duval, was simply too familiar for anyone who grew up with King of the Hill.
"I'm so happy to be involved with it; it's an amazing thing to look at," Root told the AP.
Who is Brian Heder?
On the official Grand Theft Auto VI website, Brian is described as a veteran drug smuggler in the Keys. He operates a shipyard with his third wife, Lori, and leaves the dirty work to others. Jason lives rent-free on one of his properties—provided he helps with local collections and occasionally shows up for Lori's sangria.
Root did not detail his role in the interview. The character identification stems from trailer 2 and Rockstar's official profiles, cross-referenced with the actor's unmistakable voice.
Why Does This Matter for GTA 6?
Rockstar typically keeps its cast under wraps until launch. Fans have been putting together speculative voice-recognition lists ever since the first trailer dropped. Root broke the silence on his own, without any official studio press release.
Other names remain in the realm of speculation. Lucia is frequently linked to actress Manni L. Perez; Jason, to Dylan Rourke. Neither has confirmed their involvement. Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, and the rest of the GTA 6 cast remain officially unassigned.
What This Doesn't Change
The confirmation came from the actor, not Rockstar. This does not change the release date, platforms, or the scope of Brian's role in the campaign. Root simply reiterated what the marketing campaign was already showing: the game is massive, visually heavy, and still under a strict casting embargo.
GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC release date has not yet been announced. More details are available on the official Rockstar website and via Eurogamer's coverage.
