What happened?
Devon Pritchard, president of Nintendo of America, commented on the possibility of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. In an interview with Variety, she stated that any decision about a version for the console "is a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar," and that Nintendo has nothing to announce at this time.
Pritchard highlighted that the Switch 2 is "just at the beginning of seeing what it can do" and that Nintendo seeks diversity of experiences, from family games to more mature titles, citing the return of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to the console.
Why is this important?
GTA 6, the most anticipated game of 2026, launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Switch 2, launched in June 2025, has already demonstrated power for AAA titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Resident Evil. Pritchard's response neither confirms nor denies a port, leaving the ball with Rockstar, known for selective ports on Nintendo platforms.
Nintendo emphasizes that the brand is for ages 5 to 95 and wants to offer varied experiences on the Switch 2, which has already sold more than 23 million units.
What changes in practice?
For Switch 2 owners, GTA 6 is not confirmed at launch. Rockstar's history on Nintendo platforms is limited (GTA Trilogy, L.A. Noire), and Red Dead Redemption 2 has not arrived yet. Nintendo's current priority is Zelda's 40th anniversary, with an Ocarina of Time remake in November.
