What happened?
Google presented on Monday, October 12, 2026, the Fitbit Edge, its new fitness tracker that sits between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5. The device arrives as the successor to the Fitbit Charge 6 and costs $179.99, with pre-orders already open and store availability from October 27.
The Fitbit Edge features a 1.34-inch oval AMOLED screen (46% larger than the Charge 6), a recycled aluminum body 11.5 mm thick and a weight of just 17.7 g without the band. It is the first Fitbit tracker with a user-replaceable battery and promises up to 7 days of battery life (or about 2 days with always-on display).
Why does it matter?
The wearables market is increasingly polarized between expensive smartwatches and simple bands. The Fitbit Edge fills that gap with advanced health features (ECG, SpO2, skin temperature, altimeter) and integrated GPS that is 40% more accurate than the previous generation, all in a discreet and comfortable form factor for 24-hour wear. Compatibility with Android and iOS via the Google Health app broadens the audience.
The replaceable battery and modular architecture are an important step toward sustainability and product longevity, something rare in trackers of this category. Three months of Google Health Premium are included with the purchase.
What changes in practice?
Anyone looking for workout, sleep, heart rate and notification tracking without the bulk and price of a full smartwatch now has a more balanced option. The device automatically recognizes up to 100 activity types, offers more than 50 exercise modes and allows music control and Google Maps directions on the wrist. The Stephen Curry special edition sells for $219.99.
Available in Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon colors, with various interchangeable bands. Water resistance is IP68 / 5 ATM.
