Gears of War E-Day launches on October 6 for Xbox, PC and Game Pass

Gears of War E-Day launches for the general public on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. Pacific (12:00 p.m. in Brasilia, 15:00 UTC). Early access for the Premium Edition and Game Pass subscribers with the Premium upgrade began on October 1, according to Xbox Wire. Gears of War E-Day is the origin of Emergence Day, 14 years before the first Gears of War.

What happened?

The official Xbox page lists Gears of War E-Day as available on October 6, 2026, published by Xbox Game Studios and developed by The Coalition. Confirmed platforms are Xbox Series X|S and Windows, with a Steam version. The title joins Game Pass on launch day. Cloud play runs through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW, according to the October 1 Xbox Wire post.

Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago face the Locust Horde as it erupts from underground. Besides the campaign, there is the cooperative Horde Siege mode, a reworking of Horde, and player-versus-player Versus. Pre-orders valid until October 6 at 7:59 a.m. Pacific unlock the Exfil Dom skin and the Exfil weapon skin set.

Why it matters

Gears of War E-Day was rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. Xbox Wire describes the technical base as 4K and up to 60 frames per second in campaign and multiplayer. In June, Gematsu reported the launch is an Xbox console exclusive: there is a PC version, but no PlayStation 5 version at release. The title went gold on September 17, according to Mike Crump, studio head of The Coalition. Pre-install began on September 29.

For series fans, the tone is the point: Xbox describes Emergence Day as horror and brutality, not only cover shooting. Players coming from other shooters still get the over-the-shoulder camera, active reload and a four-person squad, now with larger maps in Horde Siege.

What changes in practice

Players who did not enter early access wait for the general opening on Tuesday at noon in Brasilia. Game Pass subscribers play on day one without a separate purchase, according to the Xbox page. PC has the Microsoft Store and Steam. There is no official PlayStation version announced for this window.
