Gears of War: E-Day entered early access on October 1, 2026 for buyers of the Premium Edition, the Premium Upgrade or the Collector's Edition. The new Gears of War, announced on Xbox Wire by Mike Crump, studio head at The Coalition, started worldwide at 8:00 a.m. Pacific (15:00 UTC). The wide launch is October 6 at the same time.
What happened?
The first mainline Gears of War in seven years is a prequel set 14 years before the original, on Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde rises from below. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago appear in the pair's first fight. In Japan, 4Gamer logged on October 2 the Premium Edition early access and the launch trailer.
Gears of War: E-Day ships on Xbox Series X|S, Windows and Steam, with cloud play through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW. Xbox Wire also says the game joins Disc to Digital when early access begins. The standard edition and Game Pass without the Premium Upgrade wait until Tuesday, October 6.
Why it matters
Gears of War: E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive in an already crowded October. Early access is not a beta: it is the retail build opened a few days early for the higher-priced edition. TechTimes lists a US$ 99.99 Premium Edition price and corrects a soundtrack detail: the launch trailer uses an arrangement of "Adagio for Strings" by Adam Lastiwka, while Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" appeared in the August multiplayer trailer.
The same report describes the game as one of the first major titles to use MegaLights, Unreal Engine 5.7's stochastic direct-lighting system. That is a press technical description, not a performance claim measured by Geekiki.
What changes in practice
Anyone with the Premium Edition can play Gears of War now on Xbox, the Microsoft Store or Steam. Standard edition and regular Game Pass start on October 6 at 8:00 a.m. PT. The achievement list is already on Xbox Wire. The official trailer is on the Xbox channel and was covered by IGN.
