Warzone skin filter arrives with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1

The Warzone skin filter is the change Activision confirmed for Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. With the Operator Skin toggle on, operator skins from earlier games appear, on your screen only, as MW4 operators.

What happens?

The Warzone skin filter applies only to the battle royale, in the lobby and in matches. Enemies, party members and squadmates using an operator from another title — for example Black Ops 6 or Black Ops 7 — are shown to you as a Modern Warfare 4 operator.

Your own operator does not change. If you wear an older skin, you still see it. The setting is client-side and ships off by default. You have to turn the Warzone skin filter on in the options.

Carry Forward stays intact

Operators, skins, blueprints and camos from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 remain usable in Warzone. Purchased or earned collections are not removed. The Warzone skin filter only changes how you see other players.

Why it matters

For years part of the community has asked for a more mil-sim Warzone without flashy crossovers. Another part likes that variety. Activision is trying to serve both sides without touching anyone's progress.

In practice, players who want immersion flip the filter on. Players who want Groot, Snoop Dogg or any crossover leave it off. Nobody loses what they already bought.

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026. Season 1 — and therefore the Warzone skin filter — should open in the following weeks. Official details are on the Call of Duty blog.
