Live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film: Paramount and CD Projekt Red confirm partnership

The live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film is in development at Paramount Pictures, co-produced by CD Projekt Red. The information, first reported by Deadline, was confirmed by CDPR joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski in a post on X.

"We're excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time," Nowakowski wrote about the live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film.

What is known so far

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for the Transformers films and The Meg, is attached to the live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film project. CD Projekt Red is co-producing and holds the franchise rights. There is still no information on director, cast, script, or whether the film will adapt the main story of V and Johnny Silverhand or tell an original narrative in Night City, in the style of the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 40 million copies, and the Phantom Liberty expansion surpassed 15 million. The second season of Edgerunners premieres on Netflix on October 20, 2026, which could boost interest in the brand ahead of any live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film.

Why it matters

Adapting the cyberpunk universe for live-action cinema comes at a time when CD Projekt Red is expanding the franchise. The studio is already working on a sequel to the game (Cyberpunk 2) and maintains the success of the anime with Trigger. Previous CDPR involvement (or lack thereof) with adaptations, such as the Netflix Witcher series, shows that direct participation can better preserve the identity of Night City.

There is still no confirmation about the participation of Keanu Reeves (Johnny Silverhand) or Idris Elba (Solomon Reed), nor about a release date. Paramount, after its recent merger with Skydance, is seeking to expand its portfolio of game adaptations.
