Cyberpunk 2077 film: Paramount and CD Projekt Red confirm the live-action

A Cyberpunk 2077 film is in development at Paramount Pictures, with CD Projekt Red as co-producer. The report, published Friday, October 9, 2026, by Deadline and confirmed by joint CEO Michał Nowakowski, still has no cast, script or release date.

What happened?

According to Deadline, Paramount Pictures is developing a feature in the universe of CD Projekt Red's RPG. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, known for the Transformers films and for his role in bringing The Matrix and Harry Potter to Warner Bros., is attached. Reuters reported that the Polish developer's shares rose about 3% in early Friday trading after the story.

Nowakowski wrote on X: "We're excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time." CD Projekt Red told Reuters and Eurogamer it had nothing to add beyond that post. Paramount did not immediately respond to Reuters.

Why it matters

The Cyberpunk 2077 film follows a game that had sold 40 million copies as of July 3, 2026. Phantom Liberty had sold 15 million, according to Reuters. The game launched in 2020 to a troubled reception, especially on last-generation consoles, and recovered with update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty in 2023. The anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, made with Trigger for Netflix, reopened the franchise. Season 2 is due this month.

CD Projekt Red did not run The Witcher series on Netflix. Joining as co-producer suggests more say over Night City, Arasaka and the tone. There is no confirmation the story follows V, or that Keanu Reeves returns as Johnny Silverhand. Any casting claim along those lines would be speculation.

What changes in practice?

For players, nothing changes in the short term. The game remains on sale for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch 2. The sequel, in production at the Boston studio, had 184 developers as of July 31, with no launch date, according to Reuters. The film is more a signal that the company wants the franchise visible while the next game is unscheduled.

  • Studio: Paramount Pictures, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and CD Projekt Red.
  • Status: partnership confirmed by the joint CEO; script, cast and date unannounced.
  • Context: Edgerunners 2 arrives this month; the game sequel still has no window.
