Former FromSoftware developer announces OVERSEEKER with 9-minute trailer

Independent developer Hytacka, a former FromSoftware member, announced his new action RPG OVERSEEKER after more than a year of silence. The approximately 9-minute trailer was published on October 14, 2026, on YouTube and social media.

What happened?

Hytacka, who worked on Dark Souls 3 and whose stated goal is to create “the world's most entertaining action RPG,” returns with OVERSEEKER after the mixed launch of his previous game, Rise of Rebellion. The trailer presents the assassin siblings Noah and Ivy, who follow a moral code of not killing non-designated targets. The story involves a conflict between them and the appearance of a mysterious tower after a meteor falls.

The combat combines fast melee attacks, spells, and parries. It is worth noting that parts of the trailer, including music (Suno), voice acting (ElevenLabs), and the logo concept (ChatGPT), were generated with AI tools. It is not yet known to what extent the final game will use AI. Sources: Famitsu and Automaton.

Why does this matter?

After Rise of Rebellion received a mixed rating on Steam (about 43% positive), Hytacka seeks to redeem himself with a more accessible yet still challenging combat system. The project is developed by a small team: Hytacka (direction and design), Mitsunagi (programming), and Yuri Seibu (story). The release date has not yet been announced.

The full trailer is available on Hytacka's YouTube channel. This Japanese indie news with FromSoftware roots is drawing attention from the action RPG community.
