End of Abyss launches today, Thursday, October 1, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The horror game with a metroidvania structure is developed by Section 9 Interactive in Malmö, Sweden, and published by Epic Games Publishing. The launch price is $29.99.
What happened?
Players control Cel, a young combat technician sent into an underground complex to investigate disturbances of unknown origin. The mission becomes a descent through abandoned areas, broken machines and creatures. Paths open as she grows stronger, in the usual metroidvania loop of returning to corridors that were sealed.
The Xbox store rates it Teen for violence and blood. It is single-player. The Epic Games Store also lists a demo. Epic’s page describes End of Abyss as a focused experience from a small team led by developers known for hit games. The store material does not name those earlier titles.
Why it matters
A purchase on the Epic Games Store includes Cel’s Fortnite outfit as a gift, starting October 1 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern (9:00 p.m. in Brasília). The same piece also enters the Fortnite shop at that time. Players who already bought the outfit in the last 12 months and then buy the game on Epic receive 1,500 V-Bucks instead. Refunding End of Abyss removes the outfit or those V-Bucks. The offer lasts while the game is on sale on Epic. The skin appears in the Fortnite locker on other platforms if the Epic account is linked.
IGN published a review scored 6, labeled “okay.” Jesse Vitelli wrote that the atmosphere is not enough on its own and that combat and exploration lose steam. That is the outlet’s score, not a single verdict on the launch.
