Discord has finished rolling out its revised global age verification system after pausing the original plan in February over privacy backlash. The company says more than 90% of accounts land in an age group automatically, with no selfie or ID upload.
How it works
Every Discord account is placed in adult (18+), teen (13–17) or unconfirmed. The model uses account signals such as age of the account, servers joined and activity. Discord says it does not read messages, calls or other content to pick a group.
Users who are not classified, or who want to prove they are adults, can use a credit card via Stripe, an age range from the Apple App Store or Google Play, Google Wallet, the reusable AgeKey credential, on-device facial age estimation, or an ID scan through partners such as k-ID.
Why it matters
Discord is where guilds, anime servers and LFG channels live. Teen and unconfirmed accounts get extra safety limits. CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy described the goal as safer for teens and unchanged for adults.
The global rollout began on 22 September 2026. The age group is not shown on public profiles.
