Despera manga 2027 was confirmed by Chiaki J. Konaka at Japan Weekend Madrid. He posted the visual on X on Monday, September 28, 2026.
Konaka said the era and setting differ from the 2007 version and stressed the project is not related to Serial Experiments Lain.
Background
Yoshitoshi ABe unveiled Despera at Sakura-Con 2009. The original story followed Ain in Taishō-era Japan in 1922. The anime stalled after director Ryūtarō Nakamura died in 2013. In 2021 Konaka said funding was about 80% complete.
