Nintendo has made the free demo of Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy available today, November 2, 2026, on the Switch 2 eShop. The trial arrives ten days before the full release, set for November 12.
What does the demo offer?
According to Nintendo’s official announcement (Japanese version and international confirmations), the demo lets players explore the game’s opening area, Sunspeckled Terrace (or “hidamari no niwa” in Japanese), until collecting around 1,500 energy. It also includes two stages from the new Dandori Academy mode, a series of timed challenges focused on efficient treasure collection and Pikmin management.
Progress from the demo transfers to the full version. The Switch 2 Edition adds improved visuals, up to 4K support in TV mode, and the ability to give voice commands to companion Oatchi using the console’s built-in microphone.
Announcement context
The demo was revealed in the Pikmin Day Direct, a surprise video posted on October 31. In it, Shigeru Miyamoto officially designated November 1 as “Pikmin Day,” noting that the original red, blue, and yellow Pikmin lined up resemble the date 11.1. No new series entry was announced; instead, the focus was on the Switch 2 edition and additional content such as Hello! Pikmin animated shorts.
Owners of the original Pikmin 4 on Switch can purchase an upgrade pack for about US$9.99 (price varies by region) to access the Switch 2 features.
Why it matters
Pikmin 4, originally released in July 2023, is one of Nintendo’s highest-rated strategy-adventure titles. The Switch 2 edition arrives during a busy month for the console, alongside other releases such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on November 5. The free demo allows players to test the enhancements and new mode before deciding on a purchase.
