DeepSeek has made the official DeepSeek Harness desktop download available. The company download page now lists installers for Windows and Apple Silicon macOS, turning the agent framework — previously tied to the command line and leaked builds — into a direct-install app.
The official page describes desktop Harness as a way to work in the background, edit local files, and handle long, complex tasks. New features are expected on a regular cadence.
What the app does
Chinese outlets covering the v0.2 preview say Harness can work with documents, spreadsheets and PDFs, generate charts and decks, modify projects and run code. File changes and agent steps show up in the chat and sidebar. Scheduled tasks cover repetitive work.
Plugins no longer require a terminal: the UI can install, disable and remove npm packages from an extensions page. An experimental create mode lets Harness write a plugin and load it immediately. Sign-in works with a DeepSeek account or an API key.
Still a preview
The product remains a preview. The official page lists Windows 10 or later and Apple Silicon Macs. There is no prominently listed official installer for Linux or Intel Macs. Community wrappers existed before the official page; the change is DeepSeek’s own channel.
Harness is not the company’s free chat app. It is the on-device agent layer — closer to Codex-style tools than to a web chatbot.
