Valve’s invite-only hero shooter Deadlock set a new peak of 228,086 concurrent Steam players after the City Never Sleeps update. SteamDB figures cited by IGN, Beebom and Polygon put the previous record at 171,490.
What City Never Sleeps adds
The patch introduces six heroes — Nurse Harrow, Rat King, Solomon, Deadman Danny, Baba and Violet — plus major map work, neutrals now called Haunts, a revised HUD, shop tweaks and an updated Source 2 engine. Valve also improved anti-cheat, net prediction, audio and melee effects.
Reports say hero rollout order will follow a community vote from October 2. In a development note, the studio said it still wants item redesigns, Midboss, Guardian and Walker work, and possible alternate modes — without promising they ship in the launch build.
Why the number matters
Deadlock has no official launch and no traditional storefront page. Access remains friend invites on Steam. Even so, the peak put the game among the platform’s most-played titles the night of the patch. The last notable record, after January 2026’s Old Gods, New Blood update, sat under 100,000.
