Sunrise and Bandai Namco Filmworks confirmed on September 26, 2026 the theatrical date for the 35th-anniversary project of Future GPX Cyber Formula: February 19, 2027. The bill pairs the new short Shin Seiki GPX Cyber Formula ASURADA with an HD-remastered cinema cut of the TV compilation EARLYDAYS RENEWAL Movie Edition.
The official notice is on the franchise site and the 35th-anniversary microsite. A key visual by Hirokazu Hisayuki and Satoshi Shigeta debuted the same day. Advance Moviticket cards went on sale at 1,900 yen in CHALLENGER and WINNERS versions.
What the ASURADA short is
ASURADA is framed as a direct sequel to the 1998 OVA Cyber Formula SIN, covering “a new year (Grand Prix) of Cyber Formula.” Mitsuo Fukuda directs and writes. Shoji Kawamori designed the brand-new Zenith Asurada AKF-S0/G and unveiled the previously unseen Houou Aa AA-1. Scene cuts from the short were also released.
Confirmed cast includes Junichi Kanemaru (Hayato Kazami), Kotono Mitsuishi (Asuka Sugo), Toshihiko Seki (Bleed Kaga), Yuri Amano (Kyoko Aoi) and Shuichi Ikeda (Kyoshiro Nagumo).
The HD TV compilation
EARLYDAYS RENEWAL is the two-part 1996 compilation of the 1991 TV series. The Movie Edition is an HD remaster supervised by Fukuda and recut for the big screen.
A VRChat exhibition as well
The same day, the franchise announced a virtual exhibit at Anique Museum inside VRChat, planned for January 2027, with paddock, machines and circuit spaces plus merch. Access details are still pending.
Why it matters
