Crunchyroll Hub arrives on the PS5 home screen in spring 2027

The Crunchyroll Hub will get its own space on the PlayStation 5 home screen in spring 2027. The announcement was made by Hideaki Nishino, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, at the Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum, and confirmed in a Sony Pictures release dated October 7, 2026.

What the Crunchyroll Hub promises

According to the release, the Crunchyroll Hub brings together anime, anime-inspired games and direct access to the Crunchyroll app. The idea is that the PS5 audience finds series and games in the same spot of the interface, instead of relying only on the standalone app that has been on the console since launch in 2020.

Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll, said in the release: “From Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation, to the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series. Today, we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation. Serving fans means meeting them where they already are.”

What has not been detailed

The release does not list which anime or games will be in the Crunchyroll Hub on day one, nor does it confirm whether the space requires a subscription for the full catalog. IT Home, covering the forum, also described the creation of Crunchyroll Storyworks, a unit focused on productions with the Japanese creative ecosystem, led by Tohru Iokibe of Sony Pictures Entertainment. That point does not appear in the public Sony Pictures release excerpt checked by Geekiki.

Why the Crunchyroll Hub matters

Sony bought Crunchyroll from AT&T in 2021 for US$1.175 billion. Putting a hub on the PS5 home screen is the most visible step of that integration so far: anime stops being only an app and starts competing for attention with games on the console’s first screen. Purini cited Ghost of Tsushima: Legends as part of the same partnership.
