What happened?
The new game Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be released on October 15, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Evil Empire in partnership with Motion Twin and published by Konami, the title celebrates 40 years of the franchise with a 2D action and exploration adventure.
The story is set in 1499 in Paris, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. The protagonist is Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor Belmont, who faces monstrous creatures with the Vampire Killer whip. A free demo has been available since October 1, with progress transferable to the full game.
Editions include the Standard for about $29.99 and the Midnight Edition with art and audio gallery, plus character bonuses. The game runs at 60 fps on most platforms and 30 fps on Switch.
Why is this important?
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse marks the series' return to classic metroidvania style after years, being the first 2D game in the original timeline since Order of Ecclesia. The collaboration with Evil Empire, known for Dead Cells, promises fluid and modern gameplay.
With the franchise's 40th anniversary, the multiplatform launch and accessible demo make the title highly anticipated by fans. Support for multiple languages, including Brazilian Portuguese, expands its reach.
What changes in practice?
Players can already download the demo on all platforms and carry progress forward. The launch occurs at 12:00 AM EDT (1:00 AM BRT) on the 15th, with preloads available. The Midnight Edition offers extra digital content without early access.
On Switch the rate is 30 fps, while on other platforms it reaches 60 fps. Fans should watch for pre-order bonuses, such as the Alucard costume.
