Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development, according to writer and associate narrative director Rik Godwin of Ubisoft Bordeaux. In a Bluesky post on September 22, 2026, he called it an “odd sort of non-announcement” and said he checked that he was allowed to speak.
What Godwin said
Godwin wrote that for the past few months he has worked on Beyond Good & Evil 2 in a support and consultant role. The key line: “I am allowed to say this, I checked.” Eurogamer, Polygon and Vandal reported the post. There is no new trailer, date or official rename.
Project context
Beyond Good & Evil 2 was announced in 2008 and shown with a cinematic trailer at E3 2017. Michel Ancel left the studio in 2020. Since then Ubisoft has periodically insisted the title exists without showing recent gameplay. In June, brand director Loïc Gounon told Polygon development was still active.
Ubisoft Montpellier leads the project, with support from other sites including Bordeaux. Rumors of an internal overhaul or a Switch 2 version remain unconfirmed by the company.
Why it matters
Almost 18 years after the announcement, any authorized public signal makes news. Godwin’s note does not advance a release window or show the state of Beyond Good & Evil 2. It only confirms Ubisoft is still assigning people to the prequel and allowing that fact to be stated in public.
