ARC Raiders Frozen Trail launches October 8 with a free weekend

ARC Raiders Frozen Trail launches on October 8, 2026, at 9:00 UTC, and Embark Studios is opening the game for free around that date. The free period runs until October 12 at 8:00 UTC on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation.

What happened?

In its October 2 post, the ARC Raiders team confirmed that free access covers the full game, not a demo. The same note says the weekend coincides with Frozen Trail, described as the biggest update since launch. New players can enter the Pendola Pass map immediately only if they team up with someone who has already unlocked the area.

The update's first look, shown by Embark in September and recapped by outlets such as Destructoid, adds to the public list:

  • Pendola Pass, an alpine village north of the Rust Belt, tied to a downed Emperor.
  • The Frigate operation, an end-game ARC that players board and sabotage instead of destroying.
  • Three new machines: Bully, Skulker and Hydra.
  • The Outpost, a base extension with a research station, and amplified-quality weapons.

Those items come from the presentation. The free-weekend post confirms the date, free access and the Pendola Pass rule. The rest should be read as what Embark has already shown, until the patch is live.

Why it matters

ARC Raiders is a PvPvE extraction game from Embark, the studio behind The Finals. A new map and an operation boss change the route for current players, and the free weekend is the door for anyone who never bought the game. Embark says progress from the free period carries over, according to the FAQ on the same post, although the public article does not spell out every FAQ answer.

On September 28 the team also published an explanation of the Reward Pass, which replaces Raider Decks. The free and premium passes become the season's cosmetic progression. Old Cred expires with the update, so anyone holding the currency needs to spend it before 9:00 UTC on Thursday.

What changes in practice

Players who already own the game get ARC Raiders Frozen Trail on Thursday, October 8, at 9:00 UTC, on PC and consoles. Anyone else can play for free until Monday, October 12, at 8:00 UTC. Embark says free access includes the full game. Pendola Pass, for newcomers, depends on a partner who has already unlocked the map.

The official post does not state in the body text that PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass is required just because of the weekend. The page lists that question in the FAQ without reproducing the answer. If in doubt, check the platform store before counting on access.
