Apple HomeView: new $299 smart display with Siri AI and face recognition

What happened?

Apple announced the Apple HomeView, its first smart display for the home. The device combines a 7-inch Liquid Retina screen, quality audio and the new Siri AI, powered by Apple Intelligence. It recognizes up to six users by face and adapts the experience personally while maintaining privacy.

There are tabletop and wall-mounted versions, both at $299. Pre-orders started on October 13, with availability from November 13 in several countries including the US, UK and Canada. It will not launch in the European Union for now.

Why does this matter?

The Apple HomeView marks Apple’s entry into the smart display market, competing with Echo Show and Nest Hub but with deep Apple ecosystem integration. Siri AI offers more natural conversations, broad knowledge and app actions, with private processing via Secure Exclaves and Private Cloud Compute. Face recognition ensures personal content only appears for the correct user when the paired iPhone or iPad is nearby.

What changes in practice?

Users can control the smart home by touch or voice, view up to nine camera feeds, make FaceTime calls with Center Stage, listen to music and manage calendar. It works with Apple Home Collection and Matter accessories. Privacy is central: camera and microphone data stay isolated.
