Aoashi season 2 premieres on October 4, 2026 on Crunchyroll, with the production change that was already the main point of attention: TMS Entertainment takes over from Production I.G, the studio behind season 1.
Crunchyroll is treating the debut as an international simulcast and describes Ashito Aoi's return to Esperion's top team. In a piece published the same day, the service summarizes the season as a 24-episode run split into two cours, with the first half starting in October. That figure still depends on the official schedule matching what the platform's coverage described.
What changes in production
Kazuki Yokoyama directs Aoashi season 2 at TMS. Manabu Nakatake, Asami Taguchi and Junko Yamanaka handle character design. Masahiro Yokotani stays on series composition and Masaru Yokoyama remains on music. Shoji Hata is sound director.
In season 1, Akira Sato directed the anime at Production I.G, a studio associated with sports series such as Haikyu!! and Run with the Wind. The switch does not wipe the whole team: part of the design staff and the composition and score duo return. What viewers can compare from today is whether the match pacing and on-field staging hold with another studio.
Where the story comes from
The manga is by Yugo Kobayashi and ran in Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits from January 2015 to June 2025, across 40 volumes. Season 1 stopped before the arc in which Ashito has to hold his place among faster A-team players. Season 2 starts from that point: it is no longer only about earning the spot, it is about surviving the calendar.
The English manga is published by Titan Manga. Crunchyroll already carries season 1.
Why it matters
October 2026 opened the fall season with overlapping premieres. Aoashi enters that calendar with a production distinction, not only a date. For sports-anime viewers, the move from Production I.G to TMS is the concrete fact of this premiere. This coverage does not include a studio statement explaining the reason for the change.
