Anthropic launched the Cyber Mission on October 8, 2026, a long-term effort to support people who defend systems others depend on. The official announcement starts with two fronts: critical infrastructure and open-source software.
What was announced
On the infrastructure side, the company introduces the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program. The idea is to bring frontier models, on-site engineers and threat research to those protecting operational technology in power grids, water systems, factories and transport. Named founding partners are Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto Networks, PwC and Rockwell Automation.
On open source, OSS Scanner offers projects periodic security scans from Anthropic's strongest models, at no cost. The company says several partners already use Claude to fix vulnerabilities and help customers do the same. The notice does not include a public list of flaws already fixed by the program.
The context Anthropic highlights is industrial equipment built to last decades, often hard to take offline for a patch. The Cyber Mission, in the official text, does not replace the teams that already run those systems.
