AMD GDDR6: Prices Rise for Partners Starting October 1 Due to AI Demand

Supply chain reports indicate that AMD has raised the prices of AMD GDDR6 memory supplied to its board partners (AIBs) effective October 1, 2026.

What happened with AMD GDDR6?

The increase affects the GPU + GDDR6 kits sent to manufacturers such as ASUS, Sapphire, and XFX. Radeon RX 9000 cards (based on RDNA 4) are expected to be the most impacted, although earlier generations that still use GDDR6 may also feel the effect.

The move is attributed to strong demand for high-bandwidth memory for AI servers, which has diverted DRAM production capacity toward HBM and data center memory, raising spot prices for GDDR6.

Why the AMD GDDR6 increase matters

While NVIDIA, according to the same reports, has not yet notified partners of a similar increase for GDDR7 at this time, cost pressure on AMD could translate into higher retail prices for Radeon cards in the coming weeks. Memory represents a significant portion of the cost of a modern graphics card.

This is another episode in the contest for memory capacity between the gaming market and the 2026 AI boom.
