Norsfell, the Montreal studio behind Tribes of Midgard, announced Aftergods at the Triple-i Initiative Showcase. The game is described as a top-down “survivalite” action RPG set after Ragnarok, planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. No release date has been given.
In the announcement, creative director Julian Maroda said the project builds on Tribes of Midgard and moves beyond Norse lore into interconnected world mythologies. The studio’s central question is what happens when gods lose the source of their divinity and the world collapses. Maroda called Aftergods Norsfell’s most ambitious project to date.
What the game promises
The player is a Godborn, an unsung child of the gods who survived Ragnarok. The Steam page describes a journey to restore the Seeds of the shattered World Tree, recruit followers, build temples, forge gear, and fight giant monsters, solo or in co-op, across a handcrafted open world.
- Playable pantheons cited: Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and one still unnamed.
- Pillars carried over from Tribes of Midgard: top-down combat, survival crafting, mythic bosses, and co-op.
- Score recorded by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, with more than 60 musicians, according to coverage of the reveal.
Tribes of Midgard, released in 2021, has sold more than 5 million copies, a figure the studio uses as a point of comparison. Aftergods is presented both as an evolution of those pillars and as a new title, not a direct expansion.
There is still no release window, price, or Nintendo version. The Steam page lists the game as to be announced.
