Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has surpassed 1 million copies sold worldwide, becoming the fastest game in the 30-year franchise to reach this milestone, according to a Bandai Namco announcement around October 9, 2026.
What happened?
Launched on October 2, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam (with early access on September 29), the aerial combat game from Project Aces reached the mark in about a week. It is the first mainline entry since Ace Combat 7 in 2019.
According to Famitsu, in the week of September 28 to October 4, Ace Combat 8 led physical sales in Japan with 63,013 units on PS5. It is also the second highest-rated in the series on aggregates, around 86-88 on Metacritic, behind only Ace Combat 04.
Why it matters
The success reinforces a strong return for the franchise after seven years. Bandai Namco highlighted the expanded multiplayer and promised continuous updates. Ace Combat 7 sold over 7 million over the years, but the 8 reached 1 million much faster.
