Ace Combat 8 tops Famitsu for the week of September 28 to October 4, 2026. The Japanese magazine estimated 63,013 physical copies of Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve on PlayStation 5, according to the chart published on October 8 and reported by Gematsu.
What Famitsu measured
Famitsu figures are estimates of Japanese physical retail sales. They include boxed copies, download cards and versions preinstalled on consoles. They are not a worldwide total and do not, by themselves, include PlayStation Store or Steam digital sales.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, from Bandai Namco, launched on PS5 on October 2. It is an aerial shooter in which the player pilots fighters through a cinematic campaign. Famitsu described the opening above 60,000 physical copies as a strong start.
The rest of the top 10
Second place went to Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, from Koei Tecmo, with 18,724 copies on PS5. On Switch 2 the same edition sold 11,684, taking the two physical versions to 30,408 in their debut week of October 1.
- Rhythm Heaven Groove on Switch was third with 15,894 copies and a lifetime total of 1,065,816.
- Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on Switch 2 sold 12,787 and reached 166,646.
- Minecraft Dungeons II debuted fifth on Switch 2 with 12,093 copies.
- Xenoblade Chronicles 2 — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition entered eighth with 5,780 physical copies. Famitsu notes that this is the boxed version of a title already released in July 2026.
- Splatoon Raiders on Switch 2 added 5,403 for the week and 676,605 lifetime.
Ranks 11 to 30 are due on October 9.
Hardware: Switch 2 stays ahead
On hardware, Switch 2 led with 26,200 units and an estimated Japanese lifetime of 6,386,553. The PlayStation 5 family sold 12,768 consoles: 12,210 PS5 Digital Edition, 456 PS5 Pro and 102 disc PS5. The original Switch family totaled 7,704. The Xbox Series family sold 612 units.
What this does not say alone
Before the Famitsu chart, Japanese site Game*Spark reported that Ace Combat 8 ranked third on Steam’s weekly list and first among paid games, with a 24-hour concurrent peak above 30,000 according to SteamDB. On October 7, about 11,300 reviews across all languages were 80 percent positive, in the “very positive” band. The same outlet noted that the PC launch had been only “mostly positive” because of crashes.
Together, the figures show a relevant launch in Japan and digital traction on PC, but they do not close the global revenue picture. Sources: Famitsu and Gematsu.
