Bandai Namco confirmed that early access for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve begins this Tuesday. Japan's official PlayStation Blog says the digital Deluxe Edition and physical Collector's Box become playable from 7:00 a.m. on September 29. In the United States, Xbox Wire had already detailed Deluxe Edition early access on Xbox Series X|S from 3:00 p.m. PDT on September 28.
The standard edition remains scheduled for October 2, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The game is the new numbered entry in Bandai Namco's flight shooter series, set in 2029 in the shared Strangereal world.
What early access unlocks
Buyers of the digital Deluxe or physical Collector's Box start three days before the standard edition. As a pre-order or first-print bonus, Bandai Namco includes the playable F-14A aircraft and the PlayStation 5 port of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War, originally released in 2006 on PlayStation 2.
Japan's physical Collector's Box also includes the art book "ACES at WAR A HISTORY 2029", a steelbook, a USB drive with soundtrack tracks, Joker squadron stickers and cosmetic digital content, according to the same PlayStation Blog post.
Campaign, clouds and online
The campaign casts the player as a pilot rescued by the aging carrier Endurance after a blitz by the Republic of Sotoa against the Federation of Central Usea (FCU). The protagonist inherits the nickname "Wings of Theve", tied to a legendary ace whose fame, the story says, was not the full truth.
The Cloudly engine promises an airspace of about 10,000 km², with layered clouds, contrails and atmospheric phenomena that also serve as combat cues. More than 30 aircraft are split across fighter, attacker, multirole and electronic warfare classes, with Standard and Expert control schemes and three camera views.
Online mode is framed as the series' largest yet: a lobby for up to 100 players, Co-Op Assault and Co-Op Warfare missions, and progression separate from the campaign.
