What happened?
The Yuji Horii AI experiment drew attention: the legendary creator of the Dragon Quest series and co-creator of Chrono Trigger posted on X on October 11, 2026 a new game called Interrogation Room Komiya (取調室の小宮). He said he produced it in about 30 minutes using artificial intelligence, giving only instructions to the AI instead of drawing or programming manually.
The game is a public Claude artifact (claude.ai), playable directly in the browser. The player takes the role of an investigator and interrogates Komiya, a 72-year-old suspect (same age as Horii), a former locksmith, about a pawnshop robbery where a scroll disappeared from the safe. There are agitation and resistance meters, a move limit, and evidence to confront lies before the lawyer arrives.
In the post, Horii compared the process to the solo creation of The Portopia Serial Murder Case (1983), where he himself did the story, art and programming. “Now, by using AI, even if I can’t draw or program, I can create a decent game all by myself. It’s truly astonishing.” The post gathered millions of views and tens of thousands of likes.
Why is this important?
Horii, at 72 and a central figure in the Japanese RPG industry, is openly experimenting with generative AI tools for rapid prototyping. This illustrates how models like Claude can lower the barrier to creating simple playable experiences, especially text and mystery games.
At the same time, the case reinforces the ongoing industry debate: how far AI accelerates individual creation versus the work of large teams on complex commercial productions. Horii had previously spoken positively about AI chatbots in mystery and quiz games.
What changes in practice?
Anyone can play Interrogation Room Komiya for free via the Claude artifact link shared by Horii. It is a short, focused experiment, not a full commercial game. For independent developers and enthusiasts, it demonstrates current AI prototyping speed. For the industry, it serves as a concrete example of a veteran using the tool transparently.
The game is in Japanese and uses classic text adventure mechanics with suspect state parameters.
