YAIBA Season 2: Kaguya Arc Premieres January 9, 2027

YAIBA Season 2 has a release date: the Kaguya arc of Shin Samurai-den YAIBA (YAIBA: Samurai Legend) premieres on January 9, 2027 on Yomiuri TV, Nippon TV, and affiliates. It airs Saturdays at 5:30 PM in Japan, right in the timeslot preceding Detective Conan.

The announcement dropped this Saturday on the official website and was confirmed by Crunchyroll News, Anime News Network, Oricon, and Crank-in. While a second season was already teased following the end of Season 1 in September 2025, fans now have a firm release schedule and a striking new visual showcasing the clash.

What Happened?

The promotional key visual features Yaiba and Onimaru crossing paths with the Thunder God Sword and Wind God Sword. Reflected in the blades, Sayaka is captured by Kaguya and her lunar henmen, Tsukikage and Gekko. The tagline highlights invaders from the Moon and a true clash of legendary powers.

Context

YAIBA is a manga by Gosho Aoyama, creator of Detective Conan, serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1988 to 1993. The story follows Yaiba Kurogane as he grows up in the jungle, returns to Japan, lives with the Mine family, and faces off against kendo prodigy Takeshi Onimaru. Their duel awakens two legendary swords—and the Kaguya arc pushes the narrative toward an otherworldly threat originating from the Moon.

The first season of the new adaptation ran for 24 episodes from April to September 2025 at WIT Studio, directed by Takahiro Hasui (Mob Psycho 100 III), with series composition by Toko Machida and character designs by Yoshimichi Kameda. A previous anime adaptation aired from 1993 to 1994, but this modern version serves as a complete reboot supervised by the author.

Why Does This Matter?

In Japan, YAIBA Season 2 reclaims the prestigious "Aoyama hour": the Saturday afternoon block where Conan acts as a massive showcase. Internationally, a January 2027 release window leaves plenty of room for simultaneous streaming and dubbing, especially with Viz Media already handling English licensing.

The Kaguya arc marks a massive scale-up for the franchise, transforming a sword-fighting rivalry into a supernatural invasion centered around the lunar princess. For fans who finished Season 1, this provides a concrete release date rather than a vague promise of continuation.

What We Don't Know Yet

The announcement does not disclose the total episode count, additional staff beyond the core Season 1 team, or international streaming dates. Franchise materials list Studio Kurm as an animation support partner, while the core production remains anchored at WIT Studio.
