Xiaomi confirmed on Tuesday (22) that the Xiaomi 18 Pro will feature a 200-megapixel Leica camera on both its main lens and periscope zoom. The launch event in China takes place this Wednesday (23) at 7:00 PM Beijing time.
What happened?
Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi's mobile phone division, showcased the 'dual 200 MP' camera system for both sizes in the Xiaomi 18 Pro series. Chinese outlet IT之家 (IT Home) detailed the official teaser posters: a 1/1.28-inch main sensor and a 1/1.56-inch periscope telephoto lens.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro's telephoto lens is expected to feature a native focal length equivalent to 75mm, 3.2x optical zoom, lossless digital cropping up to 12.8x, floating focus across two lens groups, and macro capabilities starting from 12 cm.
What else has Xiaomi confirmed?
Ahead of the stage presentation, the company also listed these key specs for the Xiaomi 18 Pro:
- A 2nm mobile platform, Qualcomm's anticipated flagship chip for this generation;
- A new-generation Super Pixel display featuring the M11 light-emitting material system;
- Ultra-slim 0.99mm bezels;
- Jinshajiang battery built with 32% silicon content;
- A large model image processing mode called Legend Instant (传奇一瞬), which sends sensor data to the cloud to enhance processing.
Xiaomi claims this mode aims to deliver 'camera-level' optical bokeh. However, this remains a marketing promise, and only the final real-world photos from the Xiaomi 18 Pro will prove if the comparison holds up.
What does this mean?
Packing dual 200 MP sensors is a bold bet on digital cropping, allowing users to zoom in digitally while retaining high detail. The larger periscope sensor also aims to tackle the classic Achilles' heel of mobile zoom: small sensor areas and heavy nighttime noise.
The timing is no coincidence. The Snapdragon Summit 2026 is happening this week in Hawaii. Xiaomi is positioning the Xiaomi 18 Pro as one of the first devices powered by this generation's 2nm chip, going head-to-head with other Chinese flagships slated for October.
In practice
Tech enthusiasts tracking the Chinese market should tune into Wednesday's livestream. Those waiting for a global release do not have a confirmed date yet. Complete specifications for the display, battery, ultrawide camera, and pricing will only be revealed during the event. Lu Weibing has already warned that the Xiaomi 18 Pro will see a price hike compared to the previous generation, though exact figures were not disclosed.
What this doesn't mean yet
None of this confirms availability in international markets outside of China, nor the final commercial moniker. Today's announcement strictly covers camera specs and event dates. Everything else remains on the main stage.
