Microsoft announced on Tuesday that Xbox Mythic Achievements are rolling out to Xbox Insiders on console and PC — Xbox's long-requested answer to PlayStation's Platinum trophy. A wider release will follow later.
How Mythic works
You earn Mythic status when you complete every original achievement in a game. Achievements added later through paid DLC or free updates do not count. Once unlocked, the badge stays.
The system is retroactive. Microsoft has already applied Mythic to eligible games you finished in the past, including Xbox 360 titles. The next time you open your profile, older 100% games may already show the heroic frame.
What's new on the profile
Insiders get a new Gaming tab with achievement history, Gamerscore milestone badges and Mythic games. Each Mythic entry uses a special frame. A progress bar at the top of every game's achievement list can filter down to the original achievements you still need. Later achievements are tagged as add-ons.
You can also see which games friends have taken to Mythic. A unique unlock sound that leaked last week in the Xbox PC app is now official.
Why it matters
Players have asked for a Platinum-style capstone since the Xbox 360 generation. Completing a game no longer disappears into a raw Gamerscore total. Microsoft also made clear that future DLC will not strip a Mythic you already earned.
No public date has been set for the non-Insider rollout. The official post is on the Xbox Wire.
