Valorant Champions Shanghai, the first world championship of the game held in China, reached the playoffs with no home team left. TYLOO, Xi Lai Gaming (XLG), EDward Gaming and JD Gaming were eliminated in groups, and the bottom four places belonged to VCT China.
The last to fall was JD Gaming, which lost 2-1 to T1 in the Group A elimination match. Hours earlier, India’s Global Esports had swept EDward Gaming 2-0. TYLOO went out to Team Liquid 2-1, and XLG was swept 2-0 by Nongshim RedForce.
What happened
China entered Valorant Champions Shanghai with four slots: TYLOO, XLG, EDG and JDG, one in each group. None advanced. According to Insider Gaming’s tally, the region did not win a single series across eight series and finished with a combined 2-16 map record, only two maps won at the event.
In round one the scores were G2 2-0 TYLOO, Karmine Corp 2-0 XLG, LOUD 2-0 EDward Gaming and FUT 2-0 JDG. In the lower bracket, Liquid beat TYLOO 2-1, Nongshim RedForce swept XLG 2-0, Global Esports swept EDG 2-0 and T1 beat JDG 2-1.
The contrast with Masters
VCT China had already ranked among the lowest regions at Masters Santiago and Masters London, but it still picked up wins against other regions there. At Valorant Champions Shanghai, home advantage did not turn into a series win. The local crowd, described in reports as loud and present, watched all four organizations leave before the knockout stage.
Why it matters
The result does not change the Champions format, but it leaves the Valorant Champions Shanghai playoffs without a representative of the host country and reopens the debate about VCT China’s competitive gap versus the Americas, EMEA and Pacific, despite the region’s audience strength.
The numbers and series list were reported by Insider Gaming and TalkEsport.
