USI announces Wi-Fi 8 roadmap with SiP module for Q1 2027

USI (Universal Scientific Industrial, Shanghai) announced on 3 November 2026 its roadmap for Wi-Fi 8 (IEEE 802.11bn), with a product launch planned for the first quarter of 2027. The announcement, issued through the company's own release, builds on System-in-Package (SiP) technology already used by the company in Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7.

Reliability before peak speed

According to USI, Wi-Fi 8 shifts the focus: instead of prioritising only maximum data rates, the new generation bets on Ultra-High Reliability (UHR), efficiency and a consistent experience. The argument is practical — ever smaller devices, such as smartphones, AI laptops, smart glasses, smart rings and TWS earbuds, need to keep stable connections even with little antenna space, limited battery and complex radio environments.

The technologies named in the roadmap

The release lists three fronts: multi-access-point coordination, with Coordinated Beamforming (Co-BF) and Coordinated Spatial Reuse (Co-SR); dynamic spectrum optimisation, with Dynamic Sub-channel Operation (DSO); and physical-layer enhancements, with Distributed Resource Unit (DRU), Enhanced Long Range (ELR) and Unequal Modulation (UEQM). Together, the company says, these techniques should enable smarter, more coordinated networks and extend advanced connectivity to wearables and next-generation robotics.

What USI promises — and what it has not yet said

Jessica Yu, Associate Vice President of Wireless & Wearable Miniaturization Solutions at USI, summed up the vision: “Wi-Fi 8 is about more than faster speeds. It is about enabling devices to maintain reliable, consistent, and predictable connections in complex wireless environments.” The company also points to deeper integration across wireless ICs, RF front-ends, antennas, power management and advanced packaging, so performance and miniaturisation evolve together.

It is important to mark the limit of the announcement: this is a roadmap, not the unveiling of a finished product. The release does not disclose a model name, speed specifications, bands, price or customers — and this article does not fill those gaps. USI is a subsidiary of ASE Technology Holding and works in design, manufacturing, miniaturisation and hardware solutions, with operations in Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa.
