TypeSafe AI, creator of the Jev model, raised $870 million in a Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, reaching a $7.5 billion valuation. The model, launched on September 15, 2026, does not generate text: it receives a state and typed questions and returns calibrated decisions (yes/no, choice from a list or score with probability).
What happened?
The announcement occurred on October 9, 2026. Sequoia Capital and existing investor DCVC also participated. Martin Casado from a16z joins the board. The company claims about one-third of the Fortune 500 already uses Jev (a16z cited 25% in a post the same day).
Jev is the first model in the category TypeSafe calls System One: designed for fast, structured decisions inside software, not for conversations. Founded in 2024 by Diogo Almeida (ex-OpenAI, involved in InstructGPT and ChatGPT), Sasha Sheng and Erik Gafni, the startup came out of stealth with a $40 million seed.
Why it matters
While LLMs generate prose, Jev produces typed outputs with estimated confidence. This allows software to take direct actions (route, classify, score) without text parsing or format hallucination risk. TypeSafe claims response times of 70 to 500 ms and input price of $0.042 per million tokens, with free output.
The model uses reinforcement learning for calibrated decisions (RLCD) and a proprietary architecture. The company positions this as more suitable for automation than language models because “computers speak a different language.”
What changes in practice?
Developers send a state (context) and typed questions (choice, score or noul/yes-no). They receive structured answers with probability. This reduces cost and latency in classification, routing, scoring and guardrail workflows. TypeSafe reports rapid adoption and 1 trillion tokens generated in three days according to a16z.
Still, it is a proprietary hosted model. There are no open weights. The round proceeds will be used to expand the System One line and enterprise features. Sources: TechCrunch, SiliconANGLE, TypeSafe site and a16z posts about the October 9, 2026 announcement.
