TokiMake launches in Japan: create AI-voiced anime-style stories and chat with characters

Xross Road has launched TokiMake in Japan, an app where anyone can create, publish and play fully voiced anime-style character stories — and keep talking with those characters in their own voices. According to the company's announcement, the iOS and web versions became available on October 21, 2026, followed by the Android version on October 22.

The pitch is to lower the barrier to production: making an anime-style story with original art, voice acting and a branching script traditionally requires a full production team. In TokiMake, AI prepares the look, the voice and a draft of the story, and the creator chooses from the generated options or fine-tunes the details.

The app has three modes. In Story Mode, each title has five episodes and five possible endings, with two-choice decisions at key moments that change how characters respond and how the story ends. In Chat Mode, readers keep talking with characters after meeting them. In Create mode, any user can build characters and stories with AI, and other players can play those works and chat with the characters.

The company presents this loop — create, play, chat and build an audience — as a way to discover new intellectual property, and says it is exploring manga adaptations, and beyond that screen adaptations, for works that gain a following. That is a company statement, not an announcement of a confirmed adaptation. The app is free to start, with in-app points for chat and AI creation and monthly TokiMake Premium and Premium+ memberships. English and Chinese versions are in development, and the age rating is 16 and over.
