The Witcher 3 Remastered tops 123,000 concurrent Steam players and sets a new record

The Witcher 3 Remastered has put Geralt back at the top of Steam. On October 3, 2026, PC Gamer reported a peak of 123,359 concurrent players for the remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the highest figure ever tracked on the platform for CD Projekt Red's RPG. The Witcher 3 Remastered arrived as a free upgrade for existing owners.

What happened?

It launched on September 29, 2026. That same day, SteamDB recorded 120,975 players at once on The Witcher 3 Remastered, beating the previous record of 103,329 set in early 2020 around the Netflix series premiere. Days later, PC Gamer cited SteamDB while reporting the new 123,359 mark.

That figure is Steam-only. The game is also on GOG, the Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. In August, before the remaster, the Steam peak sat just above 30,000. The Witcher 3 Remastered more than quadrupled the recent PC traffic.

Why it matters

Alinea Analytics, cited by ixbt.games, estimates about 2.4 million daily active users over the first weekend, split between Steam (48.6%), PlayStation (40.4%) and Xbox (11%). The firm says that is more than ten times the game's average DAU this year. It also estimates 130,000 copies sold on day one across those three storefronts, at $24.99, the best day since the $3.99 sale in summer 2024. Total circulation, according to the analysts, has passed 66 million. Those sales and DAU figures are third-party estimates, not an official CD Projekt report.

What changes in practice

Anyone who already owns The Witcher 3 gets The Witcher 3 Remastered for free. New players pay the current full price of $24.99 on the stores Alinea tracked. The package still includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The comeback shows that a technical upgrade, with no new campaign, can still move a 2015 RPG when the installed base is huge and the visual jump lands on PC and consoles at the same time.
